4th of July in Wilmore

One of the highlights every 4th is to visit my family in Wilmore, Ky.  If you are not familiar with Wilmore, it has a Mayberry small town charm.  A town with only 2 stop lights, an IGA, and an old-fashioned soda fountain.  They have an annual 4th of July parade that happens to pass right by our Main Street home.  My Mom and Dad always have family and friends over for the parade and then open their home to a spread of food.

One of the highlights of the 4th of July parade is the “lawnmower brigade”.  My Dad has been a part of this group since as long as I can remember.  Basically, the normal member of this brigade gets an old lawn mower and throws a couple of flags on it, and shows up to learn the routine.

But, not my Dad.

He started off rational, but every year he tries to top himself.  He has a mower exclusively devoted to this event.  Parents, you might want to remove your young boys from the room.

2011:

That’s my Dad, the man in smoke.  Can’t see him?  Neither can I!

Check out his mower.  One flag is clearly not enough!

I love the look on these guys faces.  They must be thinking, is this guy serious?  But, Dad looks so proud!

Time to reload!  Clearly I need more smoke!
      You can’t help but smile.

The smoke marches on!

My two sparklers!

Great Nana with her Great-Grandaughter!

2012:

I hope your 4th of July was great, and if you ever need something to do, come check out the Wilmore 4th of July parade, and see the Lawnmower Brigade for yourself.  I’m sure my Dad will top himself next year!
